The Education department at John Carroll offers degree, licensure, endorsement and certificate programs.
Advanced Studies Degree Program
M.Ed
is for certified and licensed teachers and is designed to encourage individual interest and to develop further the competencies of a master teacher. Specializations available in Health and Wellness, Education Psychology, Substance Use Disorder, Literacy, as well as content area and student designed concentrations.
The Professional Teacher M.Ed
with Initial Licensure is offered for students who hold a bachelor's degree and are seeking an initial teaching license within an M.Ed program. This program can be either full-time or part-time.
The School-Based M.Ed Program
is a full-time, accelerated 11-month program designed for students who hold a bachelors degree and wish to obtain a teaching licensure while completing an M.Ed degree.
Educational Leadership
M.Ed
Program
is a two-year program will offer both online and hybrid courses. This program leads to a Master's of Education Degree (M.Ed), Certificate of Assessment and Accountability, and Principal Licensure.
If you already have a Master's Degree, you can also take the necessary courses for the Certificate and Licensure through this program.
Education Psychology
M.Ed Program
focuses on learning theories, human development, research methods, assessment, and measurements which could be utilized in a variety of settings and fields. The Education Psychology is 30 semester hours. This program does not lead to School Psychologist licensure.
The Endorsement programs
are open to students who hold a bachelor's degree and a valid Ohio Teaching license.

Biology Programs
The Biology Department offers two master degree programs:
The Master of Science in Biology for students interested in research. Students seeking to enter the M.S. program in Biology must contact faculty in the department to determine if those professors are accepting graduate students. Contact information and the research interests of Biology faculty can be found on the

Master of Arts for students seeking mastery in Biology for teaching and other applied areas of Biology.

Counseling Programs
The Counseling Program consists of two separate degree programs and a certificate program. The two degree programs are School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The certificate offered is Substance Use Disorders Counseling Certificate and is offered completely online. For students who already hold a master's degree, we also offer post-master's programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.
The M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
can be taken hybrid
(mix of face-to-face and online classes) or
completely online
. Students interested in Substance Use Disorders Counseling can pursue it as either a stand-alone certificate or as part of a Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's degree program.

Nonprofit Administration
The Master of Arts in Nonprofit Administration is an interdisciplinary professional degree program housed in the social sciences. Coursework in the program is offered by faculty from both the Boler College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. The program is intended for those who have or expect to have careers managing or administering nonprofit organizations.
The M.A. program in Nonprofit Administration is a 36 credit hour program.
The Certificate in Nonprofit Management (CNM) is a 15-18 credit hour program designed for professionals who desire specialized training relevant to nonprofit administration.

Premedical Post-Baccalaureate Program
This program is designed for individuals who want to fulfill the requirements for admission to medical school, dental school, and other healthcare professional schools and prepare for standardized exams. Most students typically possess a bachelor's degree in a discipline other than biology or chemistry and have now decided to pursue a professional career in medicine, dentistry or other professional program. The program is also appropriate for students who majored in biology or chemistry but struggled with the coursework as a traditional undergraduate or have not been enrolled in courses in these disciplines in over five years.
Most students start the program in the fall and complete it in a little over a year.
Applications are considered on a rolling basis.

Online Master of Science (M.S.) in Digital Marketing & Communication Strategy
is a 30 credit hour program that is comprised of three - nine credit hour certificates: Certificate in Content Marketing, Certificate in Digital Advertising & Social Media Marketing and Certificate in Digital Marketing Analytics plus a three credit hour capstone course. The certificates can also be taken as stand alone certificates.
